Alright, we're back from Thanksgiving break and we are really starting to dig into Original Work. Over the break, I did a little more just general research and found some more studies that support my work. Something that really stuck out to me in one particular study was that those with mental illnesses were at a higher risk of sexual victimization (and general victimization), but so were people of color and women. The population with the highest rate of sexual victimization were Black and African American women with mental illnesses, essentially the group who is seen as the weakest. I touched a little on power imbalances last year, but as I keep working it really just shows how all of the problems generally stem from only a few things.

This week I'm starting to actually write my original work. I'm going to start with why those with mental illnesses are at a higher risk and kind of follow that to the PREA and so far. As I work I need to find the specific places I'm pulling specific statements from for when I do footnotes. I used this style of citation last year and I really liked how it didn't take away from the flow of my work so I will use it again. I want to spend more time/effort on formatting this year just because I want to be happy with how it turns out.

Until next week!
